Valdemar, AS FAR's new coach: a heavy legacy to carry

AS FAR have officially announced the signing of Portuguese coach Suárez Gonçalves Pedro Valdemar to lead the first team's technical staff for two seasons.

The appointment replaces his compatriot Alexandre Santos, who left the club at the end of his contract to take charge of Kuwaiti side Al-Kuwait SC.

Valdemar inherits a heavy legacy from Santos, who achieved a historic feat by leading the military club to the CAF Champions League final, a stage AS FAR had not reached in 41 years — since their sole continental title back in 1985.

The new Portuguese coach is expected to begin his mission at the start of next season's Botola Pro campaign, amid high ambitions following last season's remarkable run.
